Nationally recognized journalist SAUNDRA AMRHEIM will discuss and sign GREEN CARD STORIES, a coffee table style book that depicts 50 recent U.S. immigrants - each with permanent residence or citizenship. Amhrhein’s powerfully written dramatic essays are illustrated with compelling portraits by award-winning photographer Ariana Lindquist in collaboration with immigration lawyers and scholars Laura Danielson & Stephen Yale-Loehr. Each story is as old as the foundation of this nation, but also reflects the global trends and conflicts of the 21st century, cutting through the rhetoric of the current immigration debate. Americans are losing the ability to talk about a phenomenon that has defined who we are as a country: a nation predominantly of immigrants from all walks of life, from all corners of the earth, who have fueled America’s success with individual talents. Immigrants’s stories tell our country’s essential story: E pluribus unum: out of many, one. Join us for this important discussion.
Amrhein has been a journalist for 17 years, including 10 at the St. Petersburg Times, reporting on government and general news with a special focus on immigration issues. She is currently a master’s degree candidate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
"Green Card Stories shines a brilliant light on the latest wave - who are coming from all corners of the world, and are again doing their magic.” Vivek Wadhwa, Washington Post columnist.
"Green Card Stories is an important resource for anyone who wants to know the truth about the enormous contributions immigrants make to this country, every day.” Steven V. Roberts, author of From Every End of This Earth: 13 Families and the New Lives They Made in America
